Bloodborne

There are very few games out there that are capable of bringing a Lovecraft style setting to life in the way that FromSoftware has. Luckily for them, their ability to do so worked out for the best, allowing them to bring one of the most beautiful games to life. While player character models weren’t cutting edge, the game itself comes together as a whole, brought to life through the company’s overall design, which allows the game to stand out from the rest.

Much like the Dark Souls franchise that came before it, Bloodborne is an artistic masterpiece. Every creature, building, and armor within the game feels uniquely crafted, specifically made for the set piece they are apart of. The same goes for the various armors and weapons that players will discover as they fight their way through endless hordes of monsters. Each comunes with its own appearance and backstory so as to show the creative depth the designers have. Even bosses themselves are distinctive, each having their own theme and land that they’ve been confined to, allowing players to feel their slow descent into the madness that has plagued the lands about them.

While the overall design choices made in Bloodborne are quite unique, it’s inspiring to see that the two studios came together to create a masterpiece that the master of horror H.P. Lovecraft himself could even appreciate were he alive today. The only downside of the game is the fact it released exclusively for the PlayStation 4, leaving out a broader audience from enjoying its magnificence.
