#6. Biomutant (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Based on the very first trailer, I honestly wasn’t sure what to think of Biomutant. It almost just seemed like someone wanted to make an action game starring Guardians of The Galaxy team member Rocket Raccoon, but didn’t want to bother with paying Disney the money for the license.

Actually watching gameplay videos reveal there’s potentially a lot more to Biomutant than you’d think. Your character is extremely customizable, so you aren’t necessarily going to look like a knockoff of a Marvel character. The gameplay is a mix of weapon swinging and gun-slinging mixed with powers such as telekinesis to make combat extremely varied.

While post-apocalyptic landscapes are hardly anything new, Biomutant still manages to have a rather distinct feel to it. The unique-looking residents of the world, the fact that the game has more color than most games in a post-apocalyptic setting, and it seems to have a least a bit of self-awareness about it that helps Biomutant have more of a sense of fun grand adventure.

Then there’s also the highly touted choice of saving the world or driving it into darkness. Granted, many games promise this and very few pull it off in any sort of meaningful way, but if Biomutant actually manages to be one the few that does, it could end up being one of the most memorable games of 2018.
