Embrace: HD Remasters are here to stay

While full-on video game remakes are certainly rare, the notion of remastering a game with modern technologies still exists and they are alive and well. Bayonetta & Bayonetta 2 will be remastered for the Nintendo Switch. Shadow of the Colossus is getting a glorious remaster for PlayStation 4, Bluepoint Games are wizards I swear.

It is quite an astonishing level of work to get these games redone just right for modern audiences. Remaking games is a process by which you completely retouch everything within it. Shadow of the Colossus gets the closest to this idea though they used as much of the original assets as possible for the version coming to PlayStation 4.

A similar thing happened with Crash Bandicoot as the studio used existing assets as the main way of looking to upgrade the game in modern times with new school touches. That said, none of them are having to completely re-do the formula in the same way Final Fantasy VII Remake is looking to with a completely different perspective or additional features beyond the updated versions of old textures.

Next: App Trigger Game of the Year 2017

For a while, everyone was not a fan of the remastered games on consoles trend, but look where it has gotten us. It would be great to see more titles just available for backward compatibility, but both versions should be able to exist. Let’s all embrace the past and look forward to the present this 2018!
