Soft Shreds Track of the Year – “Interplanetary Spark” (Yakuza 0)

We’ve brought up the soft shreds moniker in years previous, denoting synth-rock tracks with sultry, stylish guitar riffs akin to the musical stylings of Drift Stage  composer「MYRONE」. However, since there are not many games that have that exact style of music in it, the elements of funk, rock, heavy bass and slick guitar licks in a fast-paced rhythm are our current requirements.

Yakuza 0 has a ton of heavy rock and rock-electronica songs to make up its soundtrack, but “Interplanetary Spark” has a strong swing to it that separates itself from the rest of the songs, stylistically. It has a heavy bass funk to it that both backs the guitar and counters it at times while blaring loudly at all times to pump the player up.

While Persona 5 has more songs per capita that could arguably take up the soft shred moniker, “Interplanetary Spark” takes Yakuza 0 players for a ride of which they’ll never want to get off.
