10 snowy video games to make you feel that December chill
Horizon: Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds
One of the best games out this year, Horizon: Zero Dawn is worth a playthrough whether you’re craving snow or not. Its main story certainly has its share of white-capped mountain peaks to jump, sprint, and fight your way through, but The Frozen Wilds truly brings home the winter feels. Heck, it’s in the title. We’re going somewhere darn cold. Pack your parka, Aloy, because robot dinosaurs don’t mind the chill.
The Frozen Wilds takes place during, not after, the plot of Horizon, so you can tackle the dangerously snowy range of The Cut midway through a normal playthrough, or after you’ve beaten it as you reset from before the final sequence. There’s a bit more story to uncover revolving around the Banuk tribe, but some of the real thrills are in the environments. Guerilla Games has created a gorgeous mountainous realm for Aloy to fight new machine monsters in. If you weren’t already abusing that precious photo mode every few seconds, it’s time to break it out.
