But facing Lance isn’t the end of the incredible nostalgia adventure. After returning to Johto and resting, we hop aboard a boat back to Kanto for a whole new gym challenge, revisiting our old friends and learning how they’ve changed over the years. We see most of the same Gym Leaders and locations grown up, with stronger teams of Pokemon and subtle references to original dialogue and music. Sure, the Safari Zone is closed, but we can still explore other interesting locations like the Power Plant and…oh, no, what happened to Cinnabar Island?
Okay, so the reality is that Kanto has undergone some serious downsizing in the last three years, and while there are certainly some disappointments along the way, moments like the encounter with Blue as the Viridian Gym Leader and seeing Janine in Fushia City make it all worth it.
