Your first encounter with a Legendary Dog

As my colleague remarked in his reflection on Pokemon Gold and Silver, the always-running Legendary Dog trio: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune were a novelty in Generation 2. Unlike other legendaries, they did not stay put in a cave waiting to be captured. They roamed the wilds of Johto, appearing seemingly at random and surprising the heck out of you the first time they did. Their encounters felt elusive. You saw them, and immediately geared up for a tough fight. Then, they were gone as quickly as they came. To catch them, you had to be very lucky…or plan very well.

Because it’s entirely possible to plan out a route to capture the beats, who warp to a new spot on the map if you Fly, but will only move one Route over if you walk to change places. You can set up a team with a Mean Look Pokemon out front and get a serious fight going by gaming their spots, but woe to you if you make one faint! You’ll have to coax it into the open all over again.
