10 PlayStation games that deserve a Crash N. Sane Trilogy-style remaster
#4. Chrono Cross
Chrono Cross kind of got some unfair baggage attached to it since it was sort of a successor to what many people (myself included) consider the greatest RPG of all time, Chrono Trigger. But it bears little resemblance to that 16-bit classic and the only reference to the original in the entire game was a little thing near the end. The gameplay was entirely different and admittedly somewhat obtuse. Granted, most games in series like Final Fantasy are very different from one entry to the next, but there are usually certain familiar elements in each game. Actually, sometimes the fun of sequels is seeing new takes on established characters, monsters, systems, etc. Aside from the word “Chrono” in the title, there was no real thing that anyone who was a fan of Chrono Trigger would find familiar in Chrono Cross.
But once the smoke cleared, Chrono Cross often places extremely high on virtually any list of best PlayStation One games, so the acclaim is certainly there. I feel the game could really benefit from a makeover similar to what was done in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. A graphical refresh, not a dumbing down but maybe a slight simplification of the “Element” system that governs nearly everything in the game or at least the option forward and the option to fast forward through more grindy areas. It’s a semi-forgotten classic that should get another chance to find a new audience.
