#9. Alundra series

There have been a lot of attempts over the years to have a Zelda-style adventure on a console that isn’t produced by Nintendo. Most have not been anywhere near up to the standard set by Nintendo’s legendary franchise, but there have been some really good attempts. I think one of those were in the Alundra series for the PlayStation One. The first game especially was a great and challenging top-down action RPG much in the vein of Link to the Past, but it manages to not seem like a cheap knock off and rather something inspired by the Zelda games and takes its own unique twist on it.

The second game is a perfectly serviceable more action-oriented game, but it’s more noteworthy in that it seemed like as drastic a change as the first Legend of Zelda game to its sequel, The Adventure of Link. It has a whole new cast and a new perspective and bears no resemblance to the previous title in the series whatsoever.

Still, I think a little HD freshening up and combining these two games into one package would be a cool idea, especially since the Zelda series seems on course to completely abandon its more traditional format after the runaway success of Breath of the Wild. Re-releasing a series like this could be something for fans of older style as well as testing the waters to see if there is an appetite for it with pretty minimal risk.
