#4. Skies of Arcadia

Skies of Arcadia is such a lost gem of RPG goodness. Again, I feel like it’s a game that suffered mostly from being on unsuccessful consoles, the Dreamcast and Gamecube (don’t look at me guys, I bought both versions). The core of it was an incredibly fun cast and great visuals, but it also had a real sense of exploration as you uncovered the map that you actually had to chart through exploring it. You had an airship you could upgrade with various colorful characters you met on your journeys. Very few games manage a pirate motif well (especially sky pirate motifs), but Skies of Arcadia did. It’s one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played.

With a new entry, you can increase the exploration aspect even more. Maybe expand on the ship combat as well. But most importantly, keep it a fun and light adventure. Far too many games in general these days, but especially RPGs, tend to take themselves seriously. And while the world was certainly in jeopardy in Skies of Arcadia, you still managed to have lots of fun along the way. Sega has a good catalog of RPG franchises to bring back, and this should certainly be one they are looking into.
