10 franchises Sega should resurrect
#9. Eternal Champions
I may be alone on this one, but I loved Eternal Champions and its bonkers sequel, Eternal Champions: Challenge From The Dark Side. It got crazy in a way few fighting games ever did then and especially now. There is absolutely no doubt it was a attempt to cash in on the popularity of the gory Mortal Kombat, but it could be argued at the time it did “fatalities” better than the franchise it was trying to ape. Not only did your fighters have their own finishing moves, but you could have various ways to murder your opponent in any stage and they were all pretty unique.
And then there’s the cast. While modern fighting games can have some ridiculous characters, Eternal Champions: Challenge From The Dark Side took it to a new level. You could play as a chicken, a snake, a monkey, and so on. Was it balanced? Not really, but it sure was fun.
I’d love to see a modern entry in this series with some crazy new fighters to add in with some old favorites. The fighting scene is basically dominated by Capcom and NetherRealm Studios, it’d be nice for someone else to offer up a fighter with a different flavor to it.
