#6. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2

A system like a Nintendo 64 Classic should probably act as a time capsule of sorts, and if one game might really capture the era of the early 2000s, it was the early games in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, arguably peaking with the second entry, which is why that particular one is included on this list.

It’s kind of amazing how much a phenomenon these games were. It was that rare sports game that everybody played; it didn’t matter if you were into skateboarding or even into sports at all. Even a lot of people who didn’t normally play video games played this series. I’ve never been much of a sports guy, but I spent a lot of hours on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. It was literally a cultural zeitgeist, the likes of which may never been seen again, just because our interests have become so varied in the past 15 or so years. But if you want a console that encapsulates peak gaming in the late 90s/early 200s, at least one version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater must be included, and it might as well be the definitive one.
