9 – Hercules (PlayStation)

Hercules is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies, so admittedly that may be a factor here, but the game has some real positives. The music is recreated well from the movie and is great to hear as you go through the levels, which at the time was pretty novel. The animation is superb and mostly looks like a great 2D animated Disney cartoon. It was actually one of the last Disney games to be animated like this, almost all future ones were 3D polygons and most were pretty darn ugly.

On the downside, it did start a rather tired trend of Disney games based on movies that were little more than some low-res cut scenes from said movies and mostly sub-par gameplay with ugly graphics (I’m looking at you Emperor’s New Groove and Lilo and Stitch). But at the time that was a new thing and along with perfectly ok gameplay and great animation, Hercules remains a pretty solid choice if you want a game that represents the movie fairly well.
