#14 – F-Zero GX

While many of us were content with Mario Kart: Double Dash as the console’s quintessential racing game, for those a little more serious about the genre, this was not enough. Enter F-Zero GX, the last memorable game in the F-Zero series and the first to feature a story. In it, we learn about the hero and series representative Captain Falcon, his training, and rivalry with another racer.

F-Zero GX, like other F-Zero games, is not for the faint of heart. It’s difficult, encouraging players to practice tracks again and again until they know them well and can continue beating their best times. You’ll need to learn the track’s twists and turns as well as where its jump and dash plates are. Pits stops are a necessity, so you’ll need to know where those are, too, and how to best use your resources to make them as infrequent as possible.

Tight turns, high speeds, and a multiplayer for up to four players make F-Zero GX a stellar racing game, and one of the best games on the Nintendo GameCube.
