The 15 Best GameCube Games Of All Time
#5 – Super Mario Sunshine
Don’t laugh! I am firmly in the camp of people who adore Super Mario Sunshine. Even though I played the original Mario platformers back in the day, Super Mario Sunshine was something totally new and exciting. Not only was I going on a 3D Mario adventure that looked beautiful and tropical, but I could soar to new heights with the help of the trusty FLUDD. Sunshine put a new twist on the Super Mario 64 formula of open exploration in a 3D world, giving you brand new tools and a tropical paradise to play in.
Between the minigames, extra levels, and 120 Shine Sprites scattered throughout Isle Delfino, I spent hours on Super Mario Sunshine. I climbed the cliffs of Noki Bay, rode the coaster in Pinna Park, relaxed at Hotel Delfino, and cleaned up the entire island more times than I can count.
Thinking about Super Mario Sunshine, and how much of a twist the setting and mechanics were, makes me thirsty for a new 3D Mario adventure that shakes things up as much as Sunshine did for the GameCube or Galaxy for the Wii. Hopefully, the NX delivers.
