If there is any solace to take for those with a New Nintendo 3DS that feels developers don’t utilize its features properly, at the very least, the hardware provides the possibility of SNES emulation. Why fret that very few games use the C-stick, and just one game uses the extra CPU power for anything at all, when you could enjoy the Nintendo games of yesteryear?

The unfortunate part about Nintendo’s virtual console support is that the New Nintendo 3DS has so few titles coming from the SNES emulation line. Furthermore, most of them are from Nintendo. Few titles outside of the company include developers from Rare, Capcom, and Konami, making for a bleak weekly or bi-weekly offering in terms of variety.

That said, there are some great SNES titles already available on the New Nintendo 3DS. Super Mario World, the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fight and, as of today, Mega Man X are all available to download.

Although the future remains uncertain with the upcoming Nintendo NX reveal, here are some ideas for more SNES games that should make their way to the New Nintendo 3DS virtual console. In making these choices, I picked games that are not on either the New Nintendo 3DS or Wii U virtual console, natively, in North America.
