Background: Arguably the most widely known video game villain to ever exist, Bowser is the King of the Koopas and the main antagonist of the Mario video games. The large dragon-like turtle makes an appearance in close to every Mario game in existence (of which there is an obscene amount). As one of the most persistent villains of all time, he repeatedly kidnaps or attempts to kidnap Princess Peach and conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. But his plans for world domination are always foiled by Mario and friends over and over again. From his first appearance in the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES to the most recent Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U, Bowser’s never-ending fight against Mario has lasted over thirty years. And he has only grown more and more terrifying over the years.
Why He’s One Of The Greatest Video Game Villains: Let’s be honest: no greatest video game villain list would be complete without the infamous Bowser. He has appeared in more games than any other villain, including the numerous Mario spin-off games like Mario Kart and Mario Tennis. His willingness to sit down and play golf or race karts against his archenemies speaks volumes towards his attitude. In between constantly being defeated by Mario, he’s got no problem taking a break to play a competitive game of tennis. It’s almost like he has accepted that the whole shtick is just business.
But the guy never gives up despite his losing record. His numerous castles and huge army of minions are always ready to continue their quest towards domination, growing more and more advanced as the years go on. His consistent popularity and his impressive, long-lasting dedication are what earns Bowser a top spot as one of the greatest video game villains ever.
