Secrets. Good secrets.

Of course, there will be secrets in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Demo players already tracked down hidden chests behind bombable walls and discovered translations for the Hylian text in-game.  But I want to see more than just the standard “push the switches for a chest” fare. Breath of the Wild’s enormous world means that much more potential for obscure, hidden gems that won’t be found for weeks, even months after the game’s release.

Such secrets could involve text or lore easter eggs that we wouldn’t otherwise know about, such as the Hylian text, or actual items. Hidden items, in particular, have great potential, given that clothing and weapon options now exist. What about secret dungeons? Or hidden shrines, needed to complete the full 100+ marathon that will hopefully net you some brilliant reward?

If it’s possible to run straight from the start of the game to the final boss, it should also be possible to play very thoroughly and still miss optional secrets. If this game is everything it promises, I’m going to want to explore Hyrule again and again to uncover all it has to offer.
