Vol’jin

The former chieftain of the Darkspear trolls, the shadow hunter Vol’jin took over as Warchief of the Horde at the end of World of Warcraft‘s Mists of Pandaria expansion. Shadow Hunters are similar to Witch Doctors like Nazeebo in that they utilize voodoo magic to connect with the spirit world. Shadow hunters use spirit powers to both deal damage and heal. They can use throwing weapons or bows from a distance, and use a fel glaive (a long, double-edged sword) for up close melee combat.

Vol’jin is arguably the most well-known troll character, and would be an ideal choice to round out the list of World of Warcraft races in Heroes of the Storm. He has been a proposed hero by both fans and Blizzard dating back to the games early prototype phases. Vol’jin would make for an excellent hybrid melee and ranged assassin, with the ability to do either depending on the situation the player finds themselves. As a hunter, it would also make sense to add a tracking ability to hunt down enemies.

In World of Warcraft, Vol’jin makes use of both traps and totems, his bow, and his ability to hex enemies. This provides a vast toolkit for potential abilities. I think making the focus of Vol’jin utilizing his ability to poison enemies through traps and arrows and hexing them for crowd control would make for really fun gameplay. A potential (and possibly way out in left-field) ultimate could even involve poisoning enemy healing wells for a short time, so they will instead inflict a damage over time debuff to players instead of healing them. Trolls have always been one of my favorite races in Warcraft, and I hope one day to be able to ride a raptor into battle in the Nexus!
