You’ve got mail!

One of the simplest functions of an Animal Crossing mobile app, and one that could easily pair with other perks would be like a mail service. In-game, letters can be sent to neighbors or friends in the same town as you through the town postal service. With a mobile app, such letters could be sent and received while on the go, and even sent to other friends’ towns through the account system. It would look something like a regular text messaging service, only with the ability not only to attach in-game gifts to letters but also to customize them.

I didn’t come up with the idea of customizing letters. TheBitBlock did a great video on a Make Believe version of an Animal Crossing on Wii U, where the Gamepad could be used to decorate stationery with stickers, stamps, or even write letters with the stylus. I propose that a similar thing would be possible on a phone or tablet, perhaps with the added ability to include real life photos in messages to your mutual friends, similar to Miitomo. The letters could be sent and received instantly or, should Nintendo choose to make it more like regular Animal Crossing; there could be a delay of several hours to make it feel more like you were opening a letter and less like an instant messenger service. That being said, if I decided to take a break from the game for a few weeks, I wouldn’t want constant reminders that my animal friends were languishing alone without me as the weeds crept in!
