Watch ESPN

The Watch ESPN app is a cool idea on paper — users have access to the ESPN family of networks, allowing them to view live games on ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN News and ABC. It’s a must-have if you’re looking to kick cable to the curb and haven’t invested in an HD antenna.

The hitch is similar to other services mentioned above: you need a cable television account to watch live. So if you happen to know someone who is cool with lending you their credentials, you can watch most anything shown on the ESPN networks live. That includes heavy hitters like Monday Night Football.

If you’re not so lucky and can’t gain access to live games, there is still a ton of content. You can watch episodes of SportsCenter and ESPN News, a seemingly endless amount of highlights, and view stats and replays. Even if you don’t have cable, you can see most of the content on ESPN 3, including a generous selection of college sports.

It’s even better than watching SportsCenter on cable, since you can skip to the highlights you want to see without having to sit through commercials.
