3. Alto’s Adventure

It’s about this time in any list of great mobile games that I curse the fact that there isn’t a readily available synonym for “atmospheric.” If there was, I’d use it here, because it applies to a bunch of games we’ve already discussed, but it belongs in this write-up as well.

And if you’ve played Alto’s Adventure, you already know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s a snowboarding game, sure, but one that stands apart from others due to its gorgeous visuals and overall aesthetic. You know, all the details that go into creating … well, atmosphere.

That wouldn’t matter if the gameplay sucked, but it definitely doesn’t. It’s almost perfectly tuned for what it entails, and there are the usual high scores and achievements to chase.

Yet this game soars to these heights because of the way it makes you feel. I’ll keep looking for another word to describe what it brings to the table. It’s the least I can do.
