19. DEVICE 6
Release date: October 17, 2013
If you enjoy games that challenge the usual paradigms of what games are all about, DEVICE 6 should be right up your alley. It’s commonly referred to as a text-based adventure game, but it’s definitely not typical of the genre as we’ve come to know it over the years.
That’s due to the fact that the text isn’t just telling the story, it’s also showing you the story and part of the story in and of itself. It’s really hard to describe if you haven’t seen this game in action. Maybe this trailer will help:
It’s also occurred to me that it just might confuse you more. If that’s the case, you’re either going to have to take our word for how innovative it is or try it for yourself. You might not think helping Anna figure out exactly what’s going on in the strange world she finds herself in is the most fun you’ve ever had playing an iOS game (and it’s definitely not the longest one), but you’re damn sure going to respect the thought that went into developing this unique experience.
