28. Where’s My Water?

Release date: September 22, 2011

Developer: Creature Feep

Publisher: Disney Mobile

A kids’ game among the top 40 of all time? Well yes … and also no.

I say that because Where’s My Water? deserves to be thought of as more than just a game for children. It’s true that Disney was no doubt aiming young when it developed this title, and Swampy has more than his fair share of appeal to younger gamers.

But some of the physics-based puzzles have the potential to stump adults, for sure, and there’s a charm about the whole package that can endear itself to people of all ages. Never one to pass on exploiting a winning formula, Disney Interactive churned out a sequel and a series of other games with similar set-ups and “Where’s My …” in their titles, but it’s the original that has passed the test of time.

It’s also worth noting that at the time of its original release, Angry Birds was still the king of mobile games, and Where’s My Water? managed to shoot up the iOS charts and knock the birds from their lofty perch. That accomplishment has nothing to do with the game itself, but it helps put its historical relevance into more context. If this is just a kids’ game, it’s one of the best ever.
