ABC News affiliate Denver 7 is reporting on the theft of almost 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles being transported from Nintendo of America's Redmond, WA headquarters to a GameStop in Grapevine, TX.

Finding the culprits may prove difficult, as the truck driver is unsure exactly when and where the audacious heist occurred. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department, the driver stopped at a Love's Truck Stop in Bennett, Colorado, and it was during that stop that he noticed the truck had been tampered with. Authorities found 2,810 Switch 2 consoles were missing, with an estimated value of over $1.4 million.

The driver informed deputies he didn't know exactly what was in the trailer, only that it was games or toys. As game consoles continue to be high-end items, criminals are starting to pull stunts out of a Fast and The Furious movie to get their hands on them.

In 2020, we learned about the "rollover," a crazy maneuver criminals were using to break into trucks while they are still moving. Three vehicles box the truck in while the thief, usually secured by a rope, uses cutting tools or a crowbar to open the rear door and tosses the items out.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be a big-ticket item from now right through the holiday season. Its importance has been magnified with the news that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be delayed until 2026. Anybody with information about this crime is asked to call the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department at 720-874-8477.
