Filled with new features, this patch addresses numerous points brought forth by the community. Available today on test servers, PUBG update 30 introduces a new weapon, new vehicle, and new ways to engage in combat on the battlegrounds.

In an article earlier this month, I previewed news surrounding this update; however, official patch notes released today by PUBG Corp. revealed additional information on PUBG Update 30, which included a couple of surprises for players.

A new amphibious vehicle known as the “BRDM-2” will replace the armored UAZ that is currently in-game. Players will only receive the massive new vehicle after deploying a Flare Gun from outside of the playable zone. It was confirmed that the vehicle’s tires will not be vulnerable to bullets, eliminating a major defense tactic used by most players. The BRDM-2 will enable players to cross the battlegrounds slowly, but safely.

"BRDM-2’s total HP is 2500 and its health is twice as much as UAZ, while its gigantic, sturdy wheels cannot be damaged.Powerful bulletproof vehicle that can reduce incoming damage such as ammunition based assaults as well as grenades and red zone damage.BRDM-2 is an amphibious vehicle that can continue to ground travel on water, but players can’t shoot while on board. It has a capacity of up to four players on board, and Its top water speed is 22km/h and top speed on the road is 102km/h when boosted."

Making a surprise appearance this patch is PUBG’s newest weapon, the “Deagle.” Hopefully providing players with a viable option in their sidearm slot, the pistol deals significant damage matched with the expected recoil. It fires the .45 ACP ammo type and is capable of equipping a close-range sight and laser pointer attachment.

As if the player-base and competitive scene weren’t already growing tired of the current grenade meta, the collectively overlooked Gas Can received an unexpected update. Creating endless combat scenarios, the Gas Can is now explosive when shot or damaged with throwables. Similar to a poor grenade toss, the item will also damage yourself and teammates when used inaccurately.

  • While imagining plenty of fun and exciting uses for this feature, I can’t help but think of how this quickly resembles more of a land-mine in most common engagements. For example, you barely survive the spammed grenade tosses from an enemy, just to be blown up by a stray gas-can sitting in the corner of the room. It will be interesting to see how the damage radius and spawn rate are implemented when the update goes live.

The recently-teased Ledge Grab feature will also debut in Patch #30, allowing players to fight from new spots throughout each map. The feature is started by pressing the jump key while in mid-air and can be canceled in the same way vaulting is. Ask me again how I feel about this feature once I’ve been shot from a new position every game, but for now, I believe it’s a great addition.

Next, PUBG is finally addressing the game’s dysfunctional currency system with an overhaul of the “BP” that players are rewarded after each match. The game’s store will now have more items available to be purchased using the in-game currency, giving players more opportunity to spend their hard-earned BP.

New Skins and Items available in the store:

"Added 4 GLL Grand Slam: PUBG Classic items.Added 10 Summer Season itemsAdded 10 Twitch Broadcaster Royale itemsAdded 2 BattleStat Skins itemsAdded items for purchase directly with BP.2 BattleStat Skins6 shoes"

Players currently don’t have a season pass to progress through, so PUBG announced a new “Survival Supply System” in hopes to bridge the gap until the Survival Pass is available. The system provides the players with a goal or mission to accomplish, which rewards them with more BP. Unlike the Survival Pass, which costs $10, the Survival Supply System will be free.

Along with all of these updated features, a new patch always includes various bug fixes to the game. Many of these are either a rare occurrence or for extremely specific situations, so be sure to check them out at the bottom of the official patch notes.
