If you tuned into The 2023 Game Awards that took place on December 7, not only did you see Baldur’s Gate 3 take home the iconic Game of the Year Award, but you also saw Sony Santa Monica drop some big news regarding their latest blockbuster AAA title God of War Ragnarok. If you didn’t get the chance to watch The 2023 Game Awards, Sony Santa Monica announced that they will be releasing a free to play DLC titled God of War Ragnarok Valhalla.

Even after more than a year since the release of God of War Ragnarok, God of War Ragnarok Valhalla plans to shine new content and new life into the game. The best part about the announcement is that the DLC is completely free to play for all owners of the game.

How to start playing the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC

If you are reading this, that means that the God of War Ragnarok DLC is already available, and you can start playing now. You are first going to have to make sure that you have the new DLC downloaded from the PlayStation store. If you don’t and you try and play the DLC in the game’s menu, you will be redirected to the PlayStation store to download the DLC. The DLC will run you about 8GBs. Nothing too over the top, but nonetheless you need to download it.

Once the DLC is downloaded, make sure God of War Ragnarok is fully updated and is up to date and you will be ready to go. In the Main Menu screen when you are going to select your game mode, you should see an option that says “Valhalla.” The DLC will now be accessible, and you can get ready to dive into your new Rogue-Lite adventure.

If you are unfamiliar with Rouge-Lite video games, they are games where you lose most of your progression when you are defeated. Typically in a Rouge-Lite video game, there are some items that you can permanently keep to make your futures runs a bit easier to get through.

The Valhalla DLC is completely different than main game and all the progress that you made. Meaning that when you start the Valhalla DLC, you shouldn’t expect all of you gear and items to transfer over. All the progress that you make will be linked to that one sole game mode.

While the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC doesn’t impact the main game as a whole, it is cool to see this type of game mode in a video game like God of War. After all, it is completely free to play, so it is definitely worth checking out at some point if you have not done so already.
