Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokemon Legends: Arceus kicked off 2022 with a bang. This was the first Pokemon game released during the course of the year and took the Pokemon franchise in a completely different direction. Instead of trying to complete Gyms and trying to be the best in each region, you are thrown back to an older era of Pokemon. This was the first time that we have gotten to explore the past of the Pokemon universe, but it turned out to be a real treat.

The Pokemon games that we have all come to know and love have been great and something that will never truly go away. However, Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a nice change of pace for the franchise and got a lot of praise from gamers. The characters that you meet along your journey you are going to grow to love, and the various boss battles are really exciting as well. Of course, you are going to have turn-based battles when trying to capture Pokemon, but there was just something about this video game that really made the genre feel fresh.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The final Pokemon game to release in 2022 was Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This Pokemon game did a great job with the open-world aspect, and you were able to explore the Paldea Region in any way that you want. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have three main storylines going on at once and the best part is you can choose which order to complete them in.

Ninth Generation Pokemon are brought into the franchise as well in this game, so there are many Pokemon that you may not be used to seeing in other games to catch. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is definitely a step forward for the Pokemon franchise and you can clearly see that the future of Pokemon continues to evolve in many different ways from the games that were released in 2022.

There were many other great Nintendo Switch games that were released in 2022 and there are going to be many great Nintendo Switch games that will be released in 2023. I expect 2023 to be another big year for Nintendo as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to release and could be an early candidate for Game of the Year.

If there were any games on this list that you have yet to try, you won’t be disappointed with any of these that you choose. Nintendo loves to throw surprises our way so it will be interesting to see what is thrown at us during 2023. If it is anything like 2022, 2023 is going to be yet another great year for the Nintendo Switch.
