Doom made a big-time return to modern gaming with its reboot in 2016, and Bethesda and id Software look to continue that success with the upcoming sequel Doom Eternal. Hell has invaded Earth, and players once again must battle against all sorts of demonic forces with fast-paced, aggressive combat across a variety of locales with new gameplay mechanics.

Doom Eternal promises improved and modified weapons, like a readily available blade and a shotgun equipped with a grappling hook. It also introduces new movement mechanics like wall climbing and dash moves. We can also expect several completely new types of enemies and demons,  as well as some reintroduced from older Doom games.

A new gameplay system will show enemy bodies being destroyed progressively throughout combat as they suffer damage. Along with Doom’s standard multiplayer modes, Doom Eternal will introduce a new asymmetric multiplayer mode similar to the ones in Dark Souls where players can join in on others’ campaigns and hunt them down as demons.

Considering how fantastic 2016’s Doom was, we can’t wait to see what Bethesda whips up with Doom Eternal. If the gameplay we’ve seen thus far is any indication, it’s looking to be an exciting new iteration on the classic first-person shooter. It’s building on the base of its predecessors while bringing its own arsenal of weapons (literally) to the table, all in breathtakingly gory, graphical detail. While Doom Eternal doesn’t have an official release date yet, we can definitely expect to see it come out sometime in 2019.
