Modern Warfare 2’s beta was the largest in Call of Duty history

Just how excited are Call of Duty fans for Modern Warfare 2? Well, the most recent beta weekend set a franchise record.

According to Activision, the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta was the biggest beta in Call of Duty history. It boasted the most players, most hours played and most matches played across all platforms.

If you didn’t get a chance to play, you’ll, unfortunately, have to wait until the game launches. There was no surprise announcement of any additional beta plans. So for now, it seems the next time we’ll get to play is when Modern Warfare 2 launches, which si October 28th.

However, if you pre-order the game, you’ll get early access to the campaign one week before the global launch. You’ll still have to wait to play the multiplayer though.

For those of you who did participate in the beta and played enough to rank up, then you can look forward to the rewards that you earned. They’ll be waiting for you on day one of Modern Warfare 2’s launch. They’ll also be available in Warzone 2.0 when it launches on November 16th.

For those who didn’t play much of the beta, you can read our thoughts — the good and the bad — here.  We were surprised by just how smooth the beta went. The disruptive glitches and bugs were rarely experienced and matches queued up incredibly fast. Let’s hope that remains the case at launch.

As for the gameplay, there were multiple modes and maps available. The gunplay felt like a balance between the fast-paced Vanguard and the slower, more weighty 2019 Modern Warfare. There was also the introduction of a 3rd person mode, which you can read our thoughts on tomorrow.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to release globally on October 28, 2022. The game will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
