Mass Effect 4 (or 5) is now in early development
In an effort to be more open and transparent with the community, BioWare is offering behind the scenes blog posts with various staff members working on their upcoming games such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect and more. In their first post, the studio spoke with two members of the Dragon Age team, but also offered an intriguing update on the next Mass Effect.
Tucked away at the bottom of the post, BioWare added:
There’s also the next game in the Mass Effect™ universe, which is now early in development. It’s going to be a while before we can talk about it in more detail, but we can’t wait to show you what we’re working on!
The next Mass Effect, which is technically the fifth game in the series, is seemingly the next chapter in the Commander Shepard saga, hence why some people refer to it as “Mass Effect 4.” The first three games in the series were a standalone trilogy with Mass Effect: Andromeda serving as a standalone prequel completely separate from the first three games.
The first teaser for the next Mass Effect seemed to show a connection to the original trilogy, although not much is known about the game. Aside from a teaser that came in December 2020 and a single poster shared on N7 Day, BioWare hasn’t spoken much about the next Mass Effect.
In fact, during the original announcement, BioWare had only just begun pre-production on the game. It seems now that the game has entered the early development stage, so it’s slowly coming along.
The next Mass Effect is still probably a long ways off — at least a couple of years. But the move to early production means we should hopefully start getting more details regarding the highly anticipated game. Are you looking forward to a new Mass Effect game?
