Knockout City has been a delightfully fun surprise this year and even though you could technically play it on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, it was actually a “next-gen” title. That will change next week when the next-gen upgrade for Knockout City arrives on November 2.
Upgrading from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S will be completely free. The next-gen version of the game will giver players the choice to play in either Performance Mode with a smooth 120 frames per second or in Quality Mode in 4K definition but at 60 frames per second.
Here’s are options for each next-gen console:
- PS5™: Native 4K at 60FPS, or 1440p (upscaled to 4K) at 120FPS
- Xbox Series X: Native 4K at 60FPS, or 1620p (upscaled to 4K) at 120FPS
- Xbox Series S: 1440p at 60FPS, or 1080p at 120FPS
In addition to the upgraded frame rate and resolution, the next-gen version of Knockout City boasts enhanced lighting in the form of new area lights, ball lights, particle lights, global illumination and local light shadows. Environmental textures have also been improved. The result is a more realistic environment. I always thought Knockout City was a pretty game, albeit not the most technically advanced. The improved lighting, shadows and textures should make it even more immersive.
Coinciding with the next-gen arrival is the new Royale Rumble, a new playlist KO Royale where eight brawlers battle in a free-for-all in the Danger Zone. The last brawler standing wins the Danger Zone; win two Danger Zones to win the match.
Royale Rumble comes with its own batch of contracts that reward Holobux when completed. Contracts include everything from simply playing KO Royale to winning matches or simply winning Danger Zones. There will also be a special Royale Rumble Shop which will give players a second chance to buy previously released cosmetics from past seasons. The Royale Rumble shop is only available for a limited time until Tuesday, November 16.
