The nominations for the 2020 Game of the Year have been announced. Which of the six nominees deserve to take home this year’s title?
2020 has been such a wild year, but despite all of the crazy things that have happened this year we still need to find out which game will take home the coveted Game of the Year award. There are six nominations that are up for the award and the six nominations are very interesting, to say the least. Here are this year’s nominations for Game of the Year 2020:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Final Fantasy VII Remake
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Doom Eternal
- The Last of Us Part II
As you can tell, there are some great games that are nominated for this year’s Game of the Year award. However, taking a look at the list of six games it is obvious that the Game of the Year is going to be a close race between, most likely, three of the six video games listed.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
When people vote for game of the year, it usually means that the game had enough of an impact on them that year. Given the fact that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been one of the most played and talked about games during 2020 simply because of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is no surprise to see this game make the list, especially since I still hear people constantly talking about how much fun they are still having playing this game. IGN even gave this game a 9.0 out of 10. A rating that high isn’t given often and when it scores that high from IGN it is something worth talking about.
The last time a Nintendo video game won Game of the Year was back in 2017 when Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home the crown. Will a Nintendo video game take home the glory once again or will it fall just a little bit short? I tell you what, this game definitely has what it takes to give the other nominees a run for their money. However, given a few of the other tough nominees in this category, I think that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is going to fall just short of winning Game of the Year 2020.
