If Microsoft is still shopping for developers, then these five independent studios should be added to Xbox Game Studios next
In 2018, Microsoft purchased six independent game studios: Compulsion Games, inXile Entertainment, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, Playground Games, and Undead Labs. The following year, it picked up Double Fine. These seven game studios are all underneath the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.
The Xbox platform has received major criticisms for the lack of exclusive titles. 2019 only featured two: Crackdown 3 and Gears 5. Crackdown 3 was a flop, and Gears 5 was an excellent meal of a game. So, the purchase of these game studios will bulk up the first-party exclusives on the Xbox platform.
Is Microsoft done purchasing game studios for now? If they are still shopping, then they should be looking at this list of game studios.
11 bit studios
11 bit studios are not well known, but their games certainly are. This indie developer created the hit game This War of Mine. The survival game features civilians stuck in the middle of a war. Players must survive the war by scavenging for food, medicine, and other resources. The unique take on the war concept made the game stand out from the rest.
Their most recent game, Frostpunk, is a society survival and city builder. Players are tasked with being the leader of the last city on Earth. The planet is covered in ice and snow, so you have to keep the citizens warm while growing the city.
11 bit studios would be a distinctive addition to the Microsoft family. Their unique takes on genres and concepts are renowned.
