New Fist of the North Star game announced from Yakuza Studio

A new Fist of the North Star game titled Hokuto ga Gotoku is set to launch exclusively for the PS4 in 2018.

During a live stream for the Yakuza franchise where they confirmed the rumored Yakuza 2 remake, Sega executive Toshihiro Nagoshi announced that a new Fist of the North Star game is in the works. The game will be titled Hokuto ga Gotoku. The title is a composite of the Japanese names for Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken)  and Yakuza (Ryu ga Gotoku).

In the game, you’ll play an entirely original story taking place in the world of Fist of the North Star. Series protagonist, Kenshiro (CV: Takaya Kuroda) journeys the city of Eden when he hears a rumor that his previously deceased wife, Yuria is alive and well in Eden. The city is, of course, blocked from outside entry so Kenshiro has to find another way in.

Throughout the game, you’ll run into a variety of people from the original series. Fan favorite characters such as Devil Rebirth, Shin, and Rei are all confirmed to be making appearances. More characters are expected to be announced as we get closer to release. You can check out the gameplay trailer below.

The game will basically be Yakuza with a Fist of the North Star skin. Kenshiro will be able to take on odd jobs throughout the game such as bartending and others. The combat is mainly chock full of large Yakuza-style beat down sessions with groups of people. To top it off, Kenshiro is going to be voiced by Takaya Kuroda, who has voiced Yakuza’s protagonist, Kiryu, since the franchise’s inception.

Hokuto ga Gotoku is set to exclusively release for PlayStation in 2018. More information will be revealed by Sega at next month’s Tokyo Game Show. Until then, you can tide yourself over by going through the game’s official website. You can also take to Hulu to catch up on the original Fist of the North Star series from 1984.
