With the sudden and troublesome cancellation of Platinum Games’ Scaleboundthe lineup of exclusive games for Xbox One players this year doesn’t look all too promising.

However, Scalebound represents the first of many projects to have been succumbed to the merciless blade of Microsoft’s axe over the last few years, as several high-profile Xbox One games have been gutted, canned and thrown out into the trash ever since the announcement of the console itself.

Studios have been shut down, multi-platform titles have been rejected, and hotly anticipated reboots have been rendered MIA; all of this leaves us with a platform which boasts remarkably meager offerings in terms of exclusive titles, especially when you compare it to those found on the PlayStation 4.

This slideshow represents a virtual museum which pays respects to all the canceled Xbox One games so far. Don’t be surprised if the list continues to expand if Microsoft maintains this surprisingly cut-throat approach to first-party relations.

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.

Our take: The last few years have not been kind to Platinum Games. Their most recent titles have been casualties to being both critical panned and having poor sales records, but the cancellation of Scalebound was perhaps the poisonous cherry to top off a terrible season for the studio.

In all honesty, Hideki Kamiya’s role-playing action title, which was in public development for nearly three years before its cancellation, always looked a little rough around the edges.

This awkward and bloated E3 demo from Microsoft’s press conference last year, in particular, hardly did the game any justice. Still, we would have wanted to see Scalebound finally launch after spending so long in the oven, but it was apparently not to be.
