26 – Pokemon Stadium 2

Platform: Nintendo 64

Release Date: March 26th, 2001

Why It’s One Of The Best Pokemon Games: Over the course of this list, we’ve managed to regress our way from the modern, awful 3D Pokemon battling titles (Pokemon Battle Revolution) to the excellent ones we’re all nostalgic for. I’m talking here of Pokemon Stadium 2, which managed to be almost as good as Pokemon Stadium. It boasted more Pokemon, but weaker minigames and fewer extra features. Nonetheless, it borrowed most of what made the original game good and paired that with connectivity to the mainline series’ latest hits, Pokemon Gold and Silver.

Various cups such as the Poke Cup, Prime Cup, and Little Cup offered different battle styles for players willing to test their mettle with interesting limitations, and a Gym Leader Castle took players through a tour of Johto’s eight Gym Leaders and eventual Elite Four. It was like a speedy version of the mainline games without the story, but even more enjoyable if you had finished them and knew what awaited you at the top of Mt. Silver, or the end of Pokemon Stadium 2. Of course, I always just got a team of badass rental Pokemon and laid waste to anyone in my way. Don’t judge.
