You might know the Atlanta-based Hi-Rez Studios from games like SMITE, but the folks there can make mobile games too.
At least they can now. Jetpack Fighter, the studio’s first ever iOS game, is out now as a free download on the App Store. As you can see in the action-packed launch trailer below, it’s a side-scrolling platformer with cool visuals and a definite anime influence in its female protagonists and oversized weapons. Plus jetpacks, naturally.
Hi-Rez says the game “combines free-to-play accessibility with deep and rewarding gameplay,” and it offers time trials and an endless mode to go with its dozens of standard levels.
Plus there’s even a link to SMITE, as players can unlock the Greek goddess Nemesis simply by linking their Jetpack Fighter account to a Hi-Rez account. And in the spirit of reciprocity, anyone doing so will receive a code that can be redeemed in SMITE for a Leona-themed skin for Nemesis. Hooray for synergy!
Android owners have already been asking about a version for their devices, and we’ll keep you posted if there’s news on that front. In the meantime, firing up Jetpack Fighter on your iPad or iPhone is a lot safer than donning an actual jetpack, so consider that a PSA.
