If you’re one of those people who simply can’t live without your Microsoft Office software, even if you own an iPad, here’s some good news: you can now pay for a monthly subscription right within the Office apps for iOS.
As announced today by Microsoft, users can now sign up for Office 365 subscriptions from within the Word, Excel or PowerPoint apps. The company touts the flexibility that monthly plans provide, and indeed, that would seem to be the biggest reason people might find them attractive. Users opting for monthly subscriptions can also change to an annual plan from within the apps or using iTunes from any computer.
While Word, Excel and PowerPoint are free to download, they only give you the ability to read and print associated documents unless you upgrade to Office 365. The Personal tier starts at $6.99 per month and gives you the ability to create and edit documents on one tablet, install the main Office programs on one PC or Mac and throws in one TB of free storage. Office 365 Home starts at $9.99 a month and allows five tablets and five PCs or Macs to share in the benefits while also throwing in 60 free minutes of worldwide Skype calling.
TheNextWeb notes that you’ll end up paying more by going monthly instead of annual, but it still might make sense in certain use cases.
