Racing on land is great, and something tha Red Bull supports in a variety of ways. But racing airplanes less than 100 feet off the ground? That’s taking things to another level.
That kind of thrill is usually reserved for expert pilots, but Red Bull Media House and developer Roadhouse Interactive are hoping to share it with mobile gamers with Red Bull Air Race — The Game, which is swooping onto iOS and Android on September 12. The unique arace racer will allow players to test their low-altitude racing skills against 12 top pilots, upgrading their planes’ speed and aerodynamics in an effort to get to the top.
Perhaps the coolest part is that Red Bull Air Race will feature the seven real venues from the real life 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship, a tour that makes stops in six countries on three continents. Three of those events are still to come, including one at Dallas Motor Speedway in Dallas-Fort Worth September 6-7 and one at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 11-12.
What’s it like to see airplanes racing over a motorsports track? Pretty amazing, according to U.S. pilot Kirby Chambliss.
“We did that previously in Germany, and it’s a really cool perspective from a spectator standpoint, because you’re actually looking down on the airplanes as they race through the gates,” Chambliss said in a press release.
If Red Bull Air Race can capture some of that feeling, it should be pretty sweet. Look for it in the App Store or Google Play on September 12, and peep the Red Bull Games Facebook page for more on the company’s upcoming titles.
