I can honestly say that I never thought we’d be able to play BioShock, one of the best console games of this century, on a smartphone or tablet.
Yet here we are, and there BioShock is, in the iOS App Store. Provided you’ve got an iPad Mini 2, iPad Air or iPhone 5S or 5C — no earlier Apple devices will run it — you can visit Rapture and help Jack make those tough choices all over again, but this time you won’t need to be tethered to your game system.
Some very vocal members of the gaming community got a little upset when they heard that 2K was planning an iOS port of this particular game, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind here. One is that the company is awfully good at doing mobile versions ofgames that absloutely do justice to their console or PC counterparts (see: XCOM: Enemy Unknown). The other is that if more people get to play BioShock, everybody wins, and their experiences don’t take anything away from the time you spent with it on PS3 or Xbox 360.
It’s certainly not cheap, hitting the App Store at $14.99, but sometimes you have to pay for the good stuff. I hope and expect to see it start racking up the five-star reviews soon.
