We’re well aware there’s another, more popular version of Madden that launches today as well, but we talk mobile games here at App Trigger baby!
In a helpful act of synergy, EA is releasing Madden Mobile on iOS devices today to match the launch date for the console title. If you’ve never played the mobile iteration before, it changes a bit every year, but we can report from some hands-on time during the Canadian soft launch period (we know people, okay?) that the meat and potatoes of this game is assembling the best possible team from player cards like you would in Ultimate Team mode.
Gameplay consists of a single-player season mode, a rotating assortment of Live Events that allow you to win coins, trophies, collectible items or player cards, and asynchronous head-to-head matches against friends or random opponents. Those last games are offense only, though you can set your defensive strategy to guard against your opponent’s favorite plays when it is his or her turn to play.
A Stamina mechanic prevents you from just playing this free-to-play game forever, and there is premium currency to buy a chance at better cards faster. Still, these aspects seem fairly tolerable compared to previous releases.
But don’t take our word for it. Download Madden Mobile from the iOS App Store later today — or right now, depending on when you’re reading this — and see if it’s for you.
