EA Sports seems to tinker with the formula for its mobile iteration of the popular Madden NFL video game franchise with each new football season, and it appears that this year will be no exception.
A brand new Madden Mobile will launch on both iOS and Android on Tuesday, August 26, just in time for the new pro football campaign. As with the past few previous incarnations, building up a team a la the Ultimate Team mode from the console game will be an important draw, with EA saying that “this all-new NFL experience will allow fans to build a dominant team composed of the league’s best talent from past and present.”
Challenges called Live Events will update dynamically throughout the fall, offering quick ways to earn rewards like new player packs, coins and special players. Head-to-head offensive shootouts (sorry cover boy Richard Sherman!) will continue to be the main PvP element, while solo gameplay includes full 16-game seasons as players make runs at the Super Bowl. Madden Mobile is being built specifically for phones and tablets, with new touch analog controls and a context-sensitive action button.
Of course controls for mobile sports games are often a sticking point, so we’ll see if EA can lick that particular challenge this year. Look for Madden Mobile in the iOS App Store or Google Play before the end of the month.
