Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen promised his famous/infamous creation wouldn’t be gone forever. He just didn’t say exactly how his unlikely phenomenon would be making its return.
The good news, if you’re in the pro-Flappy Bird camp, is that the game’s official follow-up is here now. It’s called Flappy Birds Family, and it does exactly what you’d expect with that title, expanding the scope from a lone bird trying to dodge stuff to multiple birds trying to dodge stuff thanks to a new PvP mode.
The bad news is that if you don’t have an Amazon Fire TV, you’re S.O.L. for now (and as wrestler Mike Sanders used to say, you know what that means). While Nguyen hasn’t called it an exclusive, the gaming media has been forced to do so since it isn’t available on any other platform, and there’s been no confirmation we’ll see it anywhere else.
Maybe Nguyen isn’t as worried about its addictiveness if it remains on Fire TV, which has a relatively small install base at this point, and stays away from iOS. It’s certainly an interesting next chapter for a game and a game-maker who have been anything but predictable to date.
Oh, and if you want to check out Flappy Birds Family, you can flap over to the Amazon Appstore right now.
