For anyone hoping the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood train would run out of steam, it appears to still be fully loaded with coal.
According to App Annie data, Kim K’s divisive yet profitable casual game from Glu Mobile still sits atop the U.S. iOS Top App Chart for free games, and it’s in third place among top-grossing iOS apps. In terms of newness, it’s actually a breath of fresh air among the top-grossing leaders, most of which are games that been out much longer. The top two, Supercell’s Clash of Clans and King’s Candy Crush Saga, are stalwarts of the money-making set that don’t appear to be going away any time soon.
Nine of the top 10 top-grossing iOS apps are games, with only Pandora Radio (up one spot to fourth place) breaking the stranglehold. Dating app Zoosk is also lurking just outside the top 10.
Glu is also seeing some success on the Android charts, with Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores (which we reviewed here at App Trigger) coming in at number five on the U.S. free downloads chart. Android users are still downloading more free non-game apps in general, with Facebook, Pandora, Instagram and Facebook Messenger currently leading the way.
The top 10 highest grossing apps on Google Play are all games, with King holding down four of those spots, Supercell claiming first and fourth with Clash of Clans and Hay Day, and Zynga still claiming semi-relevance with FarmVille 2: Country Escape at number 10.
