So it turns out learning to silently kill people (in a virtual sense, of course) is a lot more fun than one may have first expected. How else to explain the enduring popularity of the Assassin’s Creed franchise?
Mobile gamers are going to get another AC game to call their own later this summer, as Ubisoft, GREE and PlayNext are teaming up to unleash Assassin’s Creed Memories on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Currently in soft launch in some very lucky territories, the game will mash card battle, strategy and RPG elements together in what’s sure to be a very tasty if bloody stew.
Players will be tasked with building guilds, recruiting powerful allies and going head-to-head with other human opponents. Memories will revisit familiar eras like Colonial America and Renaissance Italy while also expanding the brand to some new time periods and places. Customization is a big focus, as people will be able to choose exactly which famous characters they want on their teams, and the single-player experience will be supplemented by massive PvP battles that can feature up to 20 players per side.
“The card battle genre has been hugely popular around the world, and GREE and PlayNext have demonstrated their know-how and expertise on such games,” Jean Michel Detoc, managing director of Ubisoft’s mobile division, said in a statement. “With such expertise, we really believe they’re bringing a great new way to enjoy the richness of Assassin’s Creed universe to mobile players.”
PlayNext and GREE already have plenty of mobile hits under their belts, so this is an interesting partnership that seems to stand a very good chance of producing something worthy of the console and PC titles. Look for Assassin’s Creed Memories in the App Store sometime when the weather is still hot.
